Millions of people around the world are using CBD oil for treating many of their health disorders. The therapeutic properties possessed by CBD makes it a better alternative for treating many of the mental and physical health disorders.
Many parents are asking whether CBD is safe for children. According to experts, CBD can treat many health disorders that affect children.
Can CBD Help In Treating Health Disorders In Children?
Through several studies, we now know that CBD is a very effective treatment option for many of the health disorders that affect children. However, the FDA has only approved using CBD for the treatment of epilepsy.
Recently, a CBD-based medication called Epidiolex was approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration. This CBD-based medication is used to control the seizures caused by two rare forms of epilepsy that usually affect children; Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome are these epilepsies. Epidiolex is available in the form of an oral solution that is made using purified CBD oil.
The studies have proven that Epidiolex is very effective in reducing the frequency and severity of seizures in children suffering from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome. However, there is not enough scientific evidence which proves that other CBD products can effectively treat these forms of epilepsy.
In the past few years, CBD has also been used in the treatment of autism. CBD is not able to completely cure autism but can effectively alleviate some of the symptoms of the condition. In a recent study, the researchers have found that the use of CBD helped to reduce the symptoms of autism, such as restlessness, anxiety, stress, seizures, aggression, etc.
There is some research going on to find the effect of CBD in treating Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Some anecdotal records are showing that the use of CBD oil helped to ease the symptoms of ADHD in children.
Risks Of Using CBD Oil For Children
The use of CBD oil for the treatment of health disorders is relatively new and due to this, there are only limited studies on its effect on children. However, researchers are saying that even though CBD is a safe compound, it can also create some side effects if used in higher doses or used along with other medications.
Studies on the effects of CBD on autism showed that even though it offers so many benefits, CBD can cause side effects like lack of appetite, sleeplessness, dry mouth, etc. Some other studies showed that CBD can cause side effects like diarrhea, elevated liver enzymes, drowsiness, rashes, etc.
